Ingredients
- 1 cup warm water, divided
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 5 tablespoons butter (for garlic butter)
- 2 large cloves garlic, finely grated or minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, finely chopped
- 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine ½ cup warm water, yeast, and honey. Let it rest for 5-10 minutes until it becomes foamy.
- Add flour, softened butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Gradually pour in the remaining ½ cup warm water, stirring until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Add a bit more flour if needed.
- Knead the dough by hand or with a mixer for 7-10 minutes until smooth, elastic, and it bounces back when pressed.
- Cover the dough with a cloth and let it rise at room temperature until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
- About 15 minutes before the dough finishes rising, preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Melt 5 tablespoons butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Once melted, add garlic, parsley, and Italian seasoning. Stir and simmer gently for 2 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Shape the risen dough into a long tube approximately 1 inch in diameter. Cut into 1-inch pieces.
- Toss the dough pieces gently in the prepared garlic butter until thoroughly coated.
- Place the coated dough pieces into a greased 8×4 inch loaf pan.
- Bake for 20-25 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
- Optionally, sprinkle fresh parsley on top before serving.
Notes
Store at room temperature for 2-3 days in an airtight container or wrapped tightly in plastic wrap., Reheat in a 350°F oven or toaster oven for 5-6 minutes, air fryer for 3-4 minutes, or microwave individual pieces for about 15 seconds (avoid overheating)., Freeze tightly wrapped in plastic wrap and foil for longer storage; reheat as above., Use vegan butter and replace honey with sugar or agave nectar for a vegan version., Add shredded parmesan or mozzarella between dough pieces before baking for a cheesy variation., Use store-bought pizza dough as a shortcut if desired., Make mini bite-sized rolls by placing dough pieces in muffin cups and reduce baking time slightly.
