Delicious homemade garlic knots with a soft and fluffy inside and a crispy, buttery, garlicky crust. Perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or snack, served fresh with optional Parmesan cheese.

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 1 cup warm water (around 110°F)
  • 2 teaspoons sugar
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Pinch of salt (for garlic butter)

Instructions

  1. Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and olive oil; mix until combined.
  3. Knead dough by hand for 8 minutes or with a stand mixer dough hook for 5 minutes.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down dough gently and roll out on lightly floured surface into a 12×8 inch rectangle.
  6. Cut into 12 long strips.
  7. Roll each strip into a rope and tie into a knot, tucking ends underneath.
  8. Place knots on parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
  9. Cover with towel and let rest for 15 minutes while preheating oven to 400°F (200°C).
  10. Bake knots for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
  11. While baking, melt butter and stir in minced garlic, chopped parsley, and pinch of salt.
  12. Brush hot knots generously with garlic butter; sprinkle Parmesan cheese if desired.
