- 1 cup warm water (around 110°F)
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- 3 cloves garlic, minced (or 1 teaspoon garlic powder)
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
- Pinch of salt (for garlic butter)
Instructions
- Mix warm water, yeast, and sugar in a bowl; let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add flour, salt, and olive oil; mix until combined.
- Knead dough by hand for 8 minutes or with a stand mixer dough hook for 5 minutes.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Punch down dough gently and roll out on lightly floured surface into a 12×8 inch rectangle.
- Cut into 12 long strips.
- Roll each strip into a rope and tie into a knot, tucking ends underneath.
- Place knots on parchment-lined baking sheet, spaced apart.
- Cover with towel and let rest for 15 minutes while preheating oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Bake knots for 12 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
- While baking, melt butter and stir in minced garlic, chopped parsley, and pinch of salt.
- Brush hot knots generously with garlic butter; sprinkle Parmesan cheese if desired.
