Classic garlic bread with a crispy crust and buttery, garlicky interior made using ciabatta bread and a homemade garlic butter mixture.

  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 6-8 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 ciabatta bread loaf (approximately 1012 inches)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a small saucepan over low heat, melt the butter with the olive oil gently.
  3. Add the minced garlic to the melted butter and olive oil mixture, cooking slowly for 1 to 2 minutes. Stir occasionally; do not let the garlic brown.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in salt, freshly cracked black pepper, and chopped fresh parsley.
  5. Slice the ciabatta loaf in half horizontally.
  6. Using a brush or spoon, generously spread the garlic butter mixture over both cut sides of the bread, ensuring coverage in every nook and cranny.
  7. Reassemble the bread halves together like a sandwich and wrap tightly in aluminum foil.
  8. Place the wrapped bread directly on the oven rack and bake for 10 minutes.
  9. After 10 minutes, unwrap the bread and bake for an additional 5 minutes to develop a golden, crunchy crust.
  10. Remove from oven, slice as desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Using ciabatta bread provides the ideal crunch and soft interior for garlic bread; a baguette can be substituted if ciabatta is unavailable., Slow-cooking the garlic in butter and olive oil mellows the flavor and prevents bitterness., Wrapping the bread in foil traps moisture keeping the inside soft, and unwrapping it in the last 5 minutes crisps the crust., Make garlic butter up to a day ahead and refrigerate; bring to room temperature before spreading., Sliced and buttered bread can be prepared and refrigerated overnight before baking., Add variations like grated Parmesan or shredded mozzarella before baking for cheesy garlic bread, or sprinkle red pepper flakes for heat., Fresh thyme or rosemary can be added along with parsley for a herbal twist., Store leftovers wrapped tightly in foil or plastic wrap at room temperature up to 2 days or refrigerated for up to 1 week., Reheat wrapped in foil at 350°F for 5-7 minutes to preserve moisture., Garlic bread can be frozen wrapped tightly with plastic wrap and foil; thaw before reheating.
