Easy Puff Pastry Chocolate Croissants featuring flaky puff pastry filled with dark chocolate chips, topped with an egg wash and dusted with powdered sugar. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 12 croissants 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package of puff pastry (2 sheets)
  • 1 to cups dark chocolate chips
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (204°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Make the egg wash by whisking together 1 large egg and 1 tablespoon of water until smooth. Set aside.
  3. Let the puff pastry sheets thaw completely until soft and easy to handle. Remove packaging and unroll both sheets on a clean work surface.
  4. Cut each pastry sheet into 6 equal rectangles (cut sheet in half, then each half into thirds).
  5. Place a small handful of dark chocolate chips in the center of each rectangle.
  6. Starting at one shorter side, fold one side of the rectangle over the chocolate chips, pressing gently to seal.
  7. Fold the opposite side over the first fold, pressing to seal completely. For a better seal, moisten your fingertip with water and run along the seam before pressing.
  8. Arrange croissants seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.
  9. Brush croissants with the egg wash to ensure a golden, shiny finish.
  10. Bake in the oven for 20–23 minutes or until golden brown and flaky. Check at 15 minutes to monitor progress and adjust baking time as needed.
  11. Remove from oven and let cool just until warm and safe to handle.
  12. Transfer to a serving platter and dust generously with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Ensure puff pastry is fully thawed for easy handling and folding., Place croissants seam-side down to prevent them from opening up during baking., Add extra chocolate chips if desired for more indulgence., Variations include sprinkling cinnamon sugar before baking, adding peanut butter or jam for sweet and salty or fruity flavors.
